Fighting Food Insecurity with PORCH Marietta
Temple Kol Emeth is proud to launch an ongoing initiative to help fight food insecurity in our local community by partnering with PORCH Marietta. Together, we can support families facing hunger with dignity, consistency, and care.
PORCH Marietta collects non-perishable food, household essentials, and financial contributions to help our neighbors right here in East Cobb and greater Marietta. Your generosity—whether by donating items, shopping BOGO sales, or giving financially—makes a direct and meaningful impact.
How You Can Help
Drop Off Items at TKE
We will have a clearly marked PORCH Marietta collection barrel in the lobby year-round. Add a few extra non-perishable items to your weekly grocery run and bring them to TKE anytime.
Most Needed Items Include:
- Canned/pouched proteins (tuna, chicken, salmon)
- Canned corn, carrots, green peas, sweet potatoes
- Cereal
- One-pound bags of white rice
- Microwave mac and cheese cups or Chef Boyardee cups
- Granola bars
Ship Direct via Amazon
No time to shop or visit the synagogue? We have created an Amazon Wish List with the most-needed items. Order from home and have your donation shipped directly to TKE.
Buy One, GIVE One
Found a BOGO sale? Keep one for your cart and give one to PORCH! When you spot great deals, it is an easy way to double your impact and help stock the barrel quickly.
Start spreading the phrase: Buy One, GIVE One.
Make a Financial Donation
Prefer to make a monetary gift instead? Donate HERE. PORCH will use your tax-deductible contribution to purchase fresh and perishable items for families in need.
Volunteer: Monthly Sorting at TKE
PORCH Marietta sorts all East Cobb donations in the TKE Social Hall on the second Thursday of every month at 10:00am. Volunteers help sort, count, and pack donations for distribution. The shift lasts no more than 2 hours and is a great fit for folks with flexible schedules. Reach out to Liz Platner if you’re available.
Why This Matters
Food insecurity affects thousands of families in Cobb County, including many with young children. A single box of cereal, jar of peanut butter, or donated dollar can help a family get through the week. By participating in this ongoing mitzvah, we are living our values of tikkun olam and caring for our community, one grocery item at a time.
