Parade of Czech Scrolls: A Yom Hashoah Commemoration

Sunday, April 16, 2023 25 Nisan 5783

1:30 PM - 4:30 PM

During the Holocaust, there were a few miracles which should not be forgotten. One such miracle was the survival of almost 1600 Torah scrolls which came from Czechoslovakia. These scrolls, under the auspices of the Memorial Scrolls Trust, have been dispersed on permanent loan to congregations and organizations around the world, with 36 of these treasures in the states of Georgia and South Carolina. One of these, Scroll #1282, resides in the TKE community. As part of a Yom Hashoah commemoration, our scroll, along with approximately 15 other Czech scrolls from Georgia & South Carolina, will converge on Savannah in joyous celebration!

You are invited to attend this special ceremony taking place at Congregation Mickve Israel, 20 East Gordon St., Savannah.  The event will feature a procession of the scrolls around the sanctuary and an opportunity to learn about each scroll at a social gathering after the service.

See our scroll, accompanied TKE leadership, and an art project created by our Religious School students under the guidance of Robin Singer, alongside so many of these very special Torah scrolls.

There is no cost to attend, but registration is required.  Register to attend the event in Savannah HERE.
