The Life and Legacy of General Maurice Rose
In the spring of 1945, General Maurice Rose—one of the U.S. Army’s most fearless and accomplished divisional commanders—was killed in action while leading his troops into Germany. The son of a Denver rabbi, Rose commanded the legendary 3rd Armored Division and became the highest-ranking Jewish officer to die in combat during World War II.
Through archival documents, wartime maps of 1944–45 Germany, and compelling “then and now” battlefield photographs, this presentation brings Rose’s extraordinary story in the European Theater of Operations vividly to life.
Presented by Bill Cosgrove, a retired U.S. EPA professional, longtime UGA adjunct instructor, and respected WWII scholar who has made ten research trips to European battlefields. A graduate of UGA and Clemson University, Bill is also a lifelong friend of Henry Hene, having grown up together at Underwood Hills Elementary and Riverwood High School.
