Milestone 13

Planning a bar or bat mitzvah is daunting for anyone--don't do it alone!  This course is designed for ALL parents, providing relevant learning and the support of others approaching this important milestone.  If your child's date is in the next 1-4 years, this is your opportunity to prepare yourself.  Interfaith couples and those who have converted to Judaism are also encouraged to enroll--learn how to make this event meaningful and inclusive for everyone who will celebrate with you. Class meets once a month during Religious School hours.

Session topics include:

  • The significance and celebration of the Bar/Bat Mitzvah.
  • Study prayers your child is learning to enhance your understanding (no Hebrew required).
  • Issues common to interfaith families  and Jews-by-Choice in this life cycle event.
  • Tips for planning a meaningful Bar/Bat Mitzvah celebration

When:  Sunday Mornings 10:30-noon.  Monthly beginning October 21, 2018 through May 2019 (8 sessions).  For a full calendar of dates, email the instructor.

For:  Parents may enroll as an individual or couple--same tuition cost

Fee:  $100/TKE members, $150/ Non-members  Part of the Suzette Felsberg Cohen Adult Education Initiative.

This course is taught by Debbie Antonoff, M.A. Jewish Education & Jewish Communal Service. Debbie developed the course now going into its 6th at TKE.  She also developed "Bridge to the Home," which receiv ed the 1997 Belin Outreach Award from the Union for Reform Judaism. Debbie also developed "Mothers Circle" curriculum, for moms of other religious backgrounds who are raising Jewish children, piloted at Temple Kol Emeth and now offered in over 60 communities by the Jewish Outreach Institute.
