Weekly Torah Study with Rabbi Steven Lebow

Weekly, Wednesday mornings, 9:30 a.m., and Saturday mornings, 9:00 a.m.; ongoing.

Explore the Torah with Rabbi Lebow:  These classes are full of spiritual learning, comraderie, humor, and depth – a very different Torah study experience. (Drop-in, no registration necessary) 

Beginning & Intermediate Hebrew           (registration required)

Weekly classes Sundays at 9:30 a.m. for beginning Hebrew and 11:00 a.m. for intermediate Hebrew, beginning August 19, 2018

Follow the siddur in Hebrew with Lynnor Holder:  In this class you will learn the basics of reading Hebrew with Lynnor’s support and patience.  You will be able to begin to follow along in Hebrew at services.  This class prepares you for Hebrew II, where your independent reading will increase.  Who knows: reading from the Torah may be next!

Milestone 13

Monthly Sunday classes from 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m

Beginning October 21st​​​​​​​  Registration required.

Planning a bar or bat mitzvah is daunting for anyone--don't do it alone!  This course is designed for ALL parents, providing relevant learning and the support of others approaching this important milestone.  If your child's date is in the next 1-4 years, this is your opportunity to prepare yourself.  Interfaith couples and those who have converted to Judaism are also encouraged to enroll--learn how to make this event meaningful and inclusive for everyone who will celebrate with you. Class meets once a month during Religious School hours.

Session topics include:

  • The significance and celebration of the Bar/Bat Mitzvah.
  • Study prayers your child is learning to enhance your understanding (no Hebrew required).
  • Issues common to interfaith families  and Jews-by-Choice in this life cycle event.
  • Tips for planning a meaningful Bar/Bat Mitzvah celebration

When:  Sunday Mornings 10:30-noon.  Monthly beginning October 21, 2018 through May 2019 (8 sessions).  For a full calendar of dates, email the instructor.

For:  Parents may enroll as an individual or couple--same tuition cost

Fee:  $100/TKE members, $150/ Non-members  Part of the Suzette Felsberg Cohen Adult Education Initiative.

Building Blocks-The Alef-Bet of Creating a Jewish Home    (registration required)

Friday mornings twice a month beginning August 24, 2018 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Program for parents of all religious backgrounds who are raising Jewish children.  This course explores how to create Jewish memories for your children - particularly if you did not have a Jewish childhood yourself - through a step-by-step approach to raising Jewish children and creating a vibrant Jewish home.

Learn about Jewish holidays, customs and values. Create Jewish memories and family times. Meet other parents who share the same concerns and experiences.

Introduction to Judaism/Pathway to Conversion    (registration required)

This course will explore the central idea of covenant as it is expressed and manifested through Judaism. Reading the Torah we will discuss the covenant between the Divine and the Hebrews that was first established with the patriarchs and matriarchs and later greatly expanded at Mt. Sinai. Later we will look at how this covenant impacted the Israelites through their many tribulations in the Land of Israel.
