Join us as we embark on a year-long project of writing a Torah as a community. Every one of us--children and parents, singles, grandparents and newlyweds--all together, inscribing it letter by letter with our own hands. We will write this Torah as a sign of love for the most treasured object in the history of our people and we will write it because we are commanded to do so.
Imagine a day in the distant future. You find yourself here to celebrate a simcha. Or to pray. To forgive, to honor, to study. You will watch as that magnificent new scroll is lifted from its stately home in our beautiful Ark. You will say: this is ours, this is for everyone. Together, we wrote it. And, we want you to be a part of it.
There are many levels of opportunities for you and your family to participate. They begin at $18 and go all the way to $180,000. Click on Dedication Opportunities for a complete list of all levels.
When Will We Begin?
We began this wonderful journey on Sunday, October 23rd with our opening ceremony followed by a celebratory luncheon. Six additional letter fill-in days are scheduled on November 11, December 4, December 28, March 18, April 15 and May 6th. Please note that on each of these dates, time will be set aside for anyone in the congregation to make that his or her letter fill-in day on a first-come, first-served basis. All writing of letters will take place in our sanctuary. The Closing Ceremony for Ahavat Torah will take place on Sunday, October 21, 2012 when we write the last letters and celebrate the Siyyum, the completion of this mitzvah and the “marriage” of the Torah to TKE!
You have received a packet in the mail with all of the information about this once in a lifetime experience. All Dedication Requests must be sent to the temple office accompanied by the Pledge Agreement Form and a minimum deposit on your pledge. You will also find a payment schedule here. Your Pledge Agreement Form must be received by the temple office prior to your penning a letter.
You will be filling in the outlined letters that appear in the Torah text. Your dedication could be designated for a specific letter, word, verse or book; however, it will most likely not correspond to the letter you are filling in. Our scribe Rabbi Danneman will guide you to find a letter with special meaning at the time of your signing.
Join us today as we begin a once in a lifetime experience of writing the words of the Torah. It's an experience you and your family won't want to miss.
